Derek joined Vi3 as an investor in 2012 and became a board member in 2014 when Striker Partners assumed the lead investor role in the Company. Derek has significant financial, operational, and strategic business experience working with early stage venture and growth equity companies for the past two decades.
Derek is also a Managing Principal at Striker Partners, joining the firm in 1999 to help establish Striker’s investment strategy. He has primary responsibility for overseeing all of the investment activities of the firm, and spends much of his time working directly with portfolio company management teams to better position the businesses for long-term growth. Prior to joining Striker, Derek worked directly for the Office of the Chief Executive at Deloitte & Touche (“D&T”) in New York, analyzing and executing principal investment opportunities for the firm on a global basis. While at D&T, he played a key role in structuring, negotiating, and closing numerous transactions in various countries. Derek earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Bowdoin College and his M.B.A. from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Doug has more than 20 years of hands on leadership and global operating experience in strategic management, sourcing, optimizing efficiencies, turnarounds and corporate operations across retail and consumer products. He brings vast experience in turnarounds, EBITA improvement initiatives, interim leadership, international expansion and complex transformational programs. Doug has also served on several Boards of Directors as a non-executive director and executive director.
Doug earned his bachelor’s degree in business from Wilmington College and earned his MBA from Xavier University.
Curtis’ expertise in the Machine Vision, Automatic Identification and Logistics and Information Systems market sectors spans more than 25 years. Curtis served as Vice President of Automatic Identification for Robotic Vision Systems (RVSI) from 1997 to 2005. Earlier, he was Senior Program Manager and General Manager for Intermec Imaging Systems, a large barcode industry supplier and a division of Litton Industries.
Curtis also served as Senior Research Scientist at Battelle Memorial Institute for the Department of Energy Pacific Northwest Laboratory in Richland, Washington. Curtis earned a MS in Information Systems from the United States Naval Postgraduate School, a MS in Systems Management from the University of Southern California and a BA in Business Administration from the University of Washington.
While a Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps in the late 1980s, Curtis was a member of the Corps’ Research, Development and Acquisition Command. Among other things, he was responsible for the planning and execution of a major research and systems engineering development effort in support of the interoperability of Marine Corps Tactical Data Systems. He was also appointed by the U.S. Military Communications Electronics Board (USMCEB) to represent the Defense Department at the NATO Tri Services Group on Communications Electronics Equipment for Data Distribution. He worked with his counterparts from other NATO member nations to find viable solutions to problems associated with the interoperability of international computer resources as they related to tactical data communications for major weapons systems, as well as wire and radio applications.
With more than 25 years of experience in industrial barcode and machine vision industries, Diane has a major strategic advisory role at Vi3 and oversees a significant range of Vi3’s operational activities. Diane’s impeccable judgment of people, projects and new ventures informs every significant company decision. Diane has worked with Vi3’s other co-founders, Pat Costa and Curtis Howes, since 1995. In addition to her other responsibilities, Diane serves as Vi3’s Secretary and Treasurer.
Ernie brings a wealth of experience to Vi3. A recognized expert in Machine Vision, Smart Cameras and Industrial Inspection, Ernie served as Vice President of Engineering for the Acuity CiMatrix division of Robotic Vision Systems (RVSI), which developed the Data Matrix, the 2D barcode standard. It also developed a family of smart cameras, hand-held barcode scanners and integrated systems for machine vision, package inspection and product identification.
Earlier, Ernie was Vice President of Research, Development & Engineering for ICAD, developer and manufacturer of FDA-approved medical devices for scanning, digitizing, processing and analyzing mammogram films. He has also held executive engineering posts at Newport Technologies Inc, Imaging Technology Inc., Scientific Systems and Hendrix Technology.
Ernie earned his Ph.D and MSEE at Purdue University and his BSEE at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Eric is the lead architect and designer of the Vi3 suite of products. Previously, Eric served as Principal Software Engineer at Newpoint Technologies, Inc. and Senior Software Engineer at C-Grams Unlimited. Early in his career, Eric was the lead architect and designer of an innovative and highly successful monitor and control software suite for the satellite communications industry. Eric earned his degree in software engineering from Daniel Webster College.
Brian is a proven leader with over 20 years’ experience solving complex business problems on a global scale for brand owners and retailers. He has taken advantage of every opportunity to deepen his business and technical knowledge, developing expertise in Supply Chain, Brand Protection, Consumer Engagement, and Business Intelligence and Analytics.
As a Vi3 executive, Brian leads the teams that implement and support the V Suite (VTV) solution, a cloud-based solution, designed to create, share, and collaborate across “Big Data” global information platforms, utilizing Universal Interactive Serialization technology (QR codes, 2D barcodes, RFID, & NFC), and real-time data analytics, without loss of security or control of data. V Suite provides product visibility and traceability, combats counterfeiting and diversion, allows customers to communicate and collaborate with partners globally, gain worldwide logistics visibility, and connect with consumers directly and securely.
